Employment Legislation Update

Employment legislation changes in April each year. To make sure that you are up to date, here are the key changes.

Statutory Pay

From 5 April 2009 the rate for statutory maternity, paternity, adoption pay will increase to £123.06 per week or 90% of average weekly earnings, whichever is less.

Statutory Sick Pay

From 6 April 2009 the rate for statutory sick pay increases from £75.40 to £79.15

Statutory Holiday Entitlement

The statutory holiday entitlement will increase from 24 to 28 days (5.6 weeks) from April 2009 for full time workers. Bank/Public holidays can be included in this 28 day total. Holiday pay is calculated on a pro-rata basis for part time workers.

Flexible working extended

The right to request flexible working is extended to parents of children up to the age of 16 years from April 2009.

And just in case you missed these in February…

The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal increases to £66,200

The maximum award for breach of contract claims increases to £25,000

The statutory payment for a maximum weeks pay has been increased from £330 to £350 per week. This applies in cases of redundancy, for example.
