CASE STUDY 1
Company Outline
Marbel Toys is a medium sized wholesale toy importer
working across the UK.
Business Issue
Staff did not have up to date contracts of employment which
meant the company was not legally compliant and at risk.
Solution
In collaboration with the Senior management team, a contract
of employment was designed, with supporting terms and conditions,
ensuring this met the needs of the company and all legal requirements.
Each contract was individualised to meet the specific requirements
of particular company roles.
This was followed by the design and introduction of a company
wide appraisal scheme. The scheme included training company
managers to carry out appraisals, designing manager and employee
appraisal paperwork to meet the explicit company needs and
drawing up a briefing/information sheet for introduction to
the employees.

CASE STUDY 2
Company Outline
A south west based financial services company, medium sized, offering a range of insurance products.
Business Issue
As a business in the financial services industry, the company is very heavily monitored. The Combined Code 2006 on Corporate Governance sets out standards of good practice in relation to issues such as board composition and development, remuneration, accountability and audit, and relations with shareholders. The Code plays a significant part to ensure that the procedures and workings of the Board are open to scrutiny.
Solution
Sapience HR recommended that the Board undertook a formal and rigorous annual evaluation of its own performance and that of its individual directors. This took the form of establishing a regular review process of each Board meeting where the process, content and contribution of each director was assessed, followed by suggestions for improvements and development.
A system for individual annual appraisal was also established. This involved peer appraisal whereby each director reviewed and assessed the contribution of selected colleagues. These comments and observations were fed back to each director in a one to one appraisal meeting, where overall performance and contribution to the company was assessed. This culminated in the creation of a personal training and development plan.
Following the completion of this process for two years, it is pleasing to see improvements at both the Board and personal levels. |
